Cremisan lies on the northern slope of Mount El Ras, the biblical Gilo (Josue 15:51), in what is now considered Bait Jala, Palestine, but that could change with the political tides. It is a beautiful and serene area, only 5 km away from Bethlehem and 12 km from Jerusalem. According to the most reliable etymological interpretation of the actual name Cremisan comes from Kerem Zan – vineyard of the grapes Zan – a very delicious type of local grapes. The etymology of the name already testifies to the typical agricultural vocation of the area, which has been devoted to vineyards all along!
Most of the grapes utilized for our wines are hand-picked under the expert supervision of the Salesians and produced in their vineyards in Beit Gemal and Cremisan. In order to support local economy, farmers also supply some of the grapes used in Cremisan wines. Cremisan Wine Estate produces wine for every taste: Cabernet Sauvignon and Baladi – our top dry red wines, Dabouki and Hamdani-Jandali – our top dry white wines, Star of Bethlehem Red and Star of Bethlehem White – our more unique flavors, and Messa White and Messa Red – sweet wines typically used for religious celebrations
