Description
A unique grape variety for Ukraine – a unique dry white Ukrainian wine from Chateau Chizay.
In 1960, breeder Károly Bakonyi developed a new grape variety by crossing the noble Traminer Pink and Irsai Olivér. The full name of the new variety is Cserszegi Fűszeres (Hungarian for “Cserszegi Spicy”).
In Ukraine, this grape is cultivated and turned into wine exclusively by Chateau Chizay. Chersegi is loved for its unique charm and signature spiciness. This variety is also used to create the sparkling wine Carpathian Sekt.

Wine of Ukraine
Located in the Western Ukraine, in the area of Carpathian Mountains where Ukraine
borders Hungary, Poland, Romania and Slovakia. Historically known as Transcarpathia, a
historic vinicultural land. Hillsides of the volcanic Carpathians, a lot of the sun and
sufficient water amount predetermined the development of winemaking on these lands
since ancient times.
Chateau Chizay was built in 1995 after decades of hard times for Ukrainian winemaking
during communist time of USSR. However, it has deep connection to local ancient winemaking
tradition, being built at the site of a historical winery from the 17th century in the
middle of a winemaking valley named Chizay.
