Region: Ribera del Duero
Grape Variety: 77% Tempranillo, 33% Cabernet Sauvignon

Climate: The perfect southern direction, the nature of its soil and the natural drainage of the slopes create an ideal microclimate for wine production
Terroir: Vines grow on a soilbed with a high concentration of limestone. They are pruned with the double-guyot method which allows a constant regeneration of the plant and avoids premature ageing
Ageing: 100% de-stemming. Maceration for 24 days and aged 18 months in Allier oak barrels

Color: Intense ruby red
Nose: The nose is mineral with notes of fresh red fruit, strawberries, cherries and a minty touch very integrated with the tertiary aromas of the barrel
Palate: The mouth has a fresh and fluid entrance; with nervous and young tannins that give to the wine volume in the mid-mouth. The wine is mineral, complex, long and has a freshness, a fragrance and a structure that allow a promising development and ageing in the bottle

About the Winery: Hacienda Monasterio is one of the great names in Ribera del Duero. Located close to the villages of Pesquera de Valbuena del Duero on the so-called Golden Mile, the estate covers 170 hectares, its vines all north facing, with plots of Cabernet, Merlot and Malbec complementing the Tinto Fino.

The Hacienda Monasterio as we know it today was borne from an idea that Peter Sisseck had in 1990. Indeed, when he arrived in Ribera del Duero to run the cellar and plant vines there, his visionary spirit allowed him to manage the vineyard in a daringly radiant manner. The current cellar was constructed between 1991 and 1992, having been conceived by French architect, Philippe Maziéres, who had already worked for prestigious cellars such as Château Margaux and Château d’Yquem. Two years later, Carlos de la Fuente joined the team as Peter’s right-hand man.

The estate’s cellar is also at the forefront of modernity. Three buildings, equipped with a temperature and humidity control system, stand at the heart of the estate and contribute to the beauty of the estate’s wines. Stainless steel depots, temperature control systems, analytical control labs, cooling systems, natural gravel floors… Hacienda Monasterio has all of the features of the most extraordinary estates. The wines (only Crianza and Reserva wines are produced) are matured in one-year-old Bordeaux casks and are consistently amongst the region’s finest.
